"Negotiations advanced", Deco reveals all about Bayern Munich star

In the summer of 2025, when his contract with Bayer Leverkusen expired, Jonathan Tah received many calls from Europe’s top clubs: the opportunity to sign a champion of his level at no cost had attracted the interest of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and several English clubs. When he seemed to be one step away from a move to Catalonia, Jonathan Tah backed down and accepted Bayern Munich’s proposal.
In a recent interview granted to Sport, Barcelona sporting director Deco revealed all: “Last summer we talked a lot with him, we were at a very advanced point in the negotiations but then we could not close the deal’deal”. As is well known, Tah moved on to Bayern Munich and has since formed, together with Dayot Upamecano, one of the best pairs of defenders internationally. His landing in Munich has greatly reduced Kim Min-jae’s minutes, and the South Korean is not happy.
The champion had a chance to move in the winter soccer market window but Vincent Kompany blocked his departure: he will let Kim Min-jae go only when Bayern Munich hires his replacement. Max Eberl is already on the move and in the crosshairs is especially John Stones: the experienced English defender could leave Manchester City for free and the Bavarian club is among the most interested clubs. There has also been much talk about Luka Vuskovic but Tottenham’s valuation (over 40 million euros) makes the deal highly unlikely.
Bayern Munich’s strategy is to spend as little as possible in defense so that it can invest more resources for a big hit in attack. Also with regard to the backroom, another candidate is Marcos Senesi: he has an expiring contract with Bournemouth and does not want to sign a renewal. Stalled is the situation related to Nico Schlotterbeck: the champion has not yet decided whether to renew with Borussia Dortmund and the interest of Bayern Munich and, above all, Real Madrid is increasingly concrete.
