Sofia Goggia struck her third career Olympic medal at the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics: after the gold in Pyeongchang and the silver in Beijing came the bronze medal on the snows of Cortina. L’Azzurra in an interview with marieclaire.it spoke one last time about the Games, before facing the last part of the season that still sees her in contention for a specialty cup.

“On a sporting level, I medaled in three disciplines. I brought home a bronze in downhill, in an extremely difficult race because of what happened –Lindsey Vonn’s fall, the long minutes of waiting before my start, the tension building up. In Super G I was skiing really hard, I was ahead, then I went out: I got caught in a gate and at those speeds it only takes a moment. Finally, in giant slalom, I did one of my best results in years, but I was two and a half tenths of a second from the medal, with ten athletes packed into that small gap. Perhaps someone expected more, however, I played all three chances to the end”.

Sofia has gone on to medal in three consecutive Olympics, a historic achievement for Italian skiing, and the Bergamasque claimed it: “It is something historic, great. Maybe many people think Goggia was a bit disappointing because clearly when you are strong everyone expects you to win, and to bring home “only” a bronze when you could have been in contention for two gold medals in two different disciplines seems little in the eyes of most. But for what were the contingent situations, it was already nice to be able to bring home that medal”.

Goggia explains that she didn&#8217t feel much tension in these Games: “I must say it was an Olympics where I didn&#8217t feel pressure. I did feel it earlier, though, when in October everyone was already asking me and asking questions pertaining to this five-circle event”.

“Despite having all eyes on me, I didn&#8217t think about the pressures at all. I was very focused on me, on trying to put my best self on the track”.
