Lindsey Vonn, scary new update on her injury

Lindsey Vonn is back home: the U.S. skier, fresh from her dramatic accident in the downhill at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, has in fact been discharged from the hospital, as she confirmed in a post on Instagram in which she revealed new details of her injury: “When you suffer such a severe trauma in one area of the body the blood accumulates and gets blocked, basically crushing everything”.

She was recently in Italy to follow her sister in her very unfortunate Olympics.

Vonn explained that she almost lost her leg, which was saved by Dr. Tom Hackett, an orthopedic surgeon who works for Team USA: “He opened her up and let her breathe, and he saved me”. As if the injuries on the left limb were not enough, it has only now been discovered that during the fall she also broke her right ankle.

“After almost two weeks lying in bed, almost completely immobile, I am finally well enough to move into a hotel– explained the legendary American -. It is still not home, but it is a huge step. When the injury occurred the situation was quite challenging, in many ways, but eventually everything came back under control. Now I will focus on rehabilitation and the transition from wheelchair to crutches, which will happen in a few weeks. It will take about a year for all the bones to heal, and then I will decide whether I want to remove all the metal or not, and then go back to the operating room and finally fix the ACL”.

Dorothea Wierer meanwhile is back to talk about her retirement, which coincided as predicted with her participation in the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, topped off by a silver medal in the mixed relay: “I never imagined I would receive so much affection from the people who follow me and who follow biathlon. Thanks to all the fans, I realized how important it is to be yourself, to be respectful and to be able to convey emotions not only through the result”.

“Thanks to biathlon I have met so many people who have become my friends, I have learned what my limits are my strengths and weaknesses, especially when you are under pressure. I have had so many different experiences that have made me grow and also see things from other points of view”, wrote the’South Tyrolean woman on her Instagram profile.
