Inter resoundingly out of the Champions League: the Nerazzurri were beaten at San Siro and eliminated by the Norwegians of Bodo/Glimt, who after a 3-1 first leg victory won 2-1 in Milan, snatching their first historic qualification to the round of 16 of the continent’s top competition. The absence of Lautaro Martinez was felt among the meneghini, who were confused and inaccurate in attack. Bodo solid in defense and surgical up front: after this feat they will face one between Sporting and Manchester City in the round of 16.

Chivu’s team failed to break through the Norwegian wall in the first half at Meazza. The guests as expected closed in and left little room for the Nerazzurri, who were dangerous early on with Pio Esposito. The Biscione goes only in flashes, Dimarco and Thuram try from outside the area without success. At 28′ the best chance of the first half: Frattesi’s header from Dimarco’s cross finds Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Haikin ready. At the end of the half Barella falls to the ground in the opponent’s penalty area but the referee lets it go on.

Accidental canvas in the second half, with Inter repeatedly looking for a goal without luck. At 54′ Thuram failed to take advantage of a mistake by Brunstad Fet and was pounced on by the Norwegian defense. At 58′ the goal that froze the San Siro: former Milan player Hauge scored after a bad mistake by Akanji, who had the ball blown away by Blomberg. Sommer manages to fend off the shot but on the rebound the former Rossoneri man puts his side ahead.

Chivu decides to set the alarm by inserting Diouf, Bonny and Sucic. Akanji eager for redemption hit the post in 69′, but in 72′ Bodo doubled on a counterattack, Hauge serving Evjen who diagonally pierced Sommer. Inter immediately reacted by halving the disadvantage with Bastoni with his knee in a scrum, but the feat for the hosts was desperate.

Unconvincing finish for Inter, who after yet another Thuram’s sideways conclusion finally lost hope: Bodo/Glimt at the triple whistle celebrated with their fans their incredible and well-deserved qualification.
