Florian Wirtz, new backstory on big missed transfer

After an excellent experience at Bayer Leverkusen, Florian Wirtz was among the most talked-about players in the last soccer market session and was contended by Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Real Madrid. In the end the English champions won it for 125 million euros but Volker Struth, one of Germany’s most influential market agents, revealed a big back story.
To the BILD podcast he said : “When a possible transfer of him to Liverpool or Bayern Munich was being discussed, I called Xabi Alonso and told him: ‘You have to take the boy from Leverkusen to Real Madrid together with you’. Xabi replied: ‘You don’t have to tell me, you have to tell Florentino Pérez’ so I sent him a message: ‘Dear Florentino, I have already told you many times: I have a player here that I highly recommend. Florian Wirtz makes every team in the world better'”.
The Real Madrid president thanked Volker Struth and put him in touch with Blancos sporting director José Sanchez but the Madrid club made no concrete offer to buy Florian Wirtz: “It was not the right time because of issues related to an already very large roster and budget reasons: even the coffers of a club like Real Madrid are not always full. My wish remains to see Florian in a Blancos jersey one day”.
After a rather complicated first period, Florian Wirtz now seems to have settled in completely at Liverpool and his performance has grown tremendously in recent months. The English champions started the season very badly and are trying to recover but are still out of the positions that guarantee qualification for the next Champions League, a placement that few expected and that obviously does not satisfy the Reds management.
The Reds have been in the process of recovering from a bad start.
In recent weeks there has been much talk of a possible change on the Liverpool bench: Arne Slot no longer enjoys the club’s complete confidence, and should the team fail to secure a Champions League spot, exoneration is not so impossible. The prime candidate to replace the Dutch coach seems to be Xabi Alonso, who is looking for a new experience after his exoneration from Real Madrid in January.
