Golf, Andrea Pavan falls down elevator shaft: his current condition

Andrea Pavan was the protagonist, despite himself, of a terrible accident. The Italian golfer, engaged, in South Africa, in the South African Open has plunged into the elevator shaft of the hotel where he was staying. The 36-year-old from Rome fell from a height of as many as three floors after the doors opened on his floor without the cabin being there.

Immediately rescued, the Italian golfer was transported, urgently, to the hospital. Immediate surgery to reduce some fractures in the vertebrae and to implant a plate in the shoulders was required. The surgery seems to have been perfectly successful. What is certain is that Andrea Pavan is not in life-threatening danger.

The lawyers of Andrea Pavan’s family are already working to shed light on what happened. According to reports in Il Messaggero, it appears that in his haste to have to retrieve the keys, he did not notice that the cabin was missing when the elevator arrived. The whole thing happened in a split second, thus leading to the tragic accident.

A DP World Tour spokesman certified that Andrea Pavan “withdrew due to injury” from the South African Open, but added no further details on the nature of the injury “for reasons of medical confidentiality.”

Born in Rome, class of 1989, but living in the United States, Texas, with his wife, he has taken part in two US Open events and one British Open. He has won two DP World Tour tournaments in his career: the D+D Real Czech Masters in 2018 and the Bmw International Open in Munich in 2019.
