Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani are stopped in the semifinals in the women’s doubles tournament of the “BNP Paribas Open,” the third WTA 1000 of the season (combined with the first ATP Masters 1000 in 2026), with a total prize money of $9,415,715, underway on the concrete courts of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and scheduled until Sunday. The Italian pair was defeated by a score of 6-2 6-2 in 59 minutes by one of the most solid pairs on the circuit, that of the U.S. Taylor Townsend and the Czech Katerina Siniakova.

The German tennis player's last success dates back to the 2023 US Open

The latter had won the title at Indian Wells in 2023 along with compatriot Barbora Krejcikova, who retired in the singles tournament in the round of 16 against Elina Svitolina. Champions at the Australian Open and finalists at the U.S. Open in 2025, Townsend and Siniakova thus improve on the semifinals they reached in the California tournament last season. For a place in the final they will face Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina and Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic.

Errani and Paolini, currently 11th in the Race to Turin, nevertheless hit their second semifinal of the season. Before Indian Wells they had also reached the top four in Doha (where they defended their title), stopped by the Hsieh/Ostapenko pair. In the other tournaments in 2026, however, they had exited in the second round at the Australian Open (despite three match points in their favor) against Australia’s Birrell/Gibson and in the first round in Dubai against Siegemund/Zvonareva.

In contrast, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori’s progress continues in the third edition of the mixed doubles invitational tournament included in the BNP Paribas Open 2026 schedule, underway on the courts of Indian Wells, Calif. The Italian pair, defending champions and fourth seed in the draw, pulled off the pass to the semifinals by overcoming Britain’s Julian Cash and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands in the quarters with a score of 6-2 6-4, after an hour and two minutes of play.

In the semifinals Errani and Vavassori will face another pair with an Italian presence: the one composed of Swiss Belinda Bencic and Italian Flavio Cobolli.
