It certainly wasn&#8217t a day to remember on Saturday for Sofia Goggia: eighth after the first run in the Åre giant slalom, the champion from Bergamo made a mistake in the second fraction, a slip that led her off the track and to her subsequent retirement. Speaking to official Fisi channels, l’Azzurra explained what’happened, taking responsibility for the’exit but equally trying to highlight some positive aspects that emerged in the morning fraction.

“In these conditions I deform the ski well, I feel in rhythm – debuted the 1992 class finisher -. However, I gave too much pressure before the bump and this movement shot me away, because I did not have the readiness to open my feet right away. However, let”s take the good that there is: now I focus on the fast races in Norway, I was sorry not to close in Val di Fassa the talk in super-giant, I have a good advantage but skiing is unpredictable and anything can happen”.

Goggia is in the midst of a race to win the Super-G Cup, a trophy she has never won in her career (she has instead won the downhill CdM four times). The leaderboard has the Bergamasque ahead of everyone with 449 points, ahead of Alice Robinson’s 386, the only athlete who can still challenge her. Goggia, in a nutshell, can’t lose more than 37 points to Robinson. The final race of the supergiant is scheduled for next March 22 and it promises to be a great challenge between the two champions.

As far as downhill is concerned, however, Sofia Goggia is paying for a few too many defaults this season and is already now certain that she cannot aim for the top five: vying for the Cup in the fastest specialty ever are Italy&#8217s Laura Pirovano (436 points), Germany&#8217s Emma Aicher (408) and Germany&#8217s Kira Weidle (351). Lindsey Vonn, currently third at 400, will not be able to be there due to a serious injury suffered at the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.
