Rafa Nadal open-hearted about his retirement

Only a few days ago we witnessed Roger Federer’s last act. The Swiss champion decided to leave played tennis and even in his last match he wanted Rafa Nadal, his rival but above all a great friend, close by. However, Federer’s retirement did not affect the Spaniard, who in an interview granted to Partidazo de COPE said, “No, even in those moments I did not think about when I will leave. Zero. I know that moment will come in X or X and little more. At 36 and a half years old I know I am in the last stretch of my career, but I don’t think about it.”

“I’m a sensitive person, when you see someone you appreciate say goodbye it’s hard not to get emotional,” Nadal continued. “It got out of hand, and the worst thing is that when I went back to my room alone I got emotional again. It was hard for it not to happen after all I experienced on that very special evening.”

“It was a relationship that was beautiful from the beginning and has strengthened over the years. Somehow normal people appreciate the rival, as long as the rival is a good person. As time goes by then you realize that together you have been on a special path and that’s how we personally experienced it and the tennis world also felt it. Thanks to all of this, several people who were not interested in tennis began to become passionate and show interest and admiration for our sport. Our way of seeing the world and our own rivalry made our personal relationship probably become more intense and important than the professional one. For the past few years, the friendship has grown stronger. For various reasons we have had to be closer, more in touch, and because of that we have done good and beautiful things. There is an understanding that has been consolidated but we understand each other, in some cases we have different opinions, as is logical but a bond of friendship has been created that will last over time.”
