Coincidence with Vincenzo Nibali, Filippo Ganna tries to explain
On Saturday at 8 p.m. Filippo Ganna will be in Grenchen, Switzerland, to attempt to break the Hour record. The challenge is to grind the most kilometers on the track in one hour. Currently the record is held by Dan Bigham: 55.548 km.
“Objective? Just one meter more than Bigham. Being in contact with friends and track partners I have regained serenity, the peace of mind I need to be the usual Philip. Maybe at the World Championships in Australia I missed that Francesco Lamon who made the right joke to reassure me,” the Verbania cyclist told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I’d like not to approach myself, because you can’t, but at least get close to the big names, the myths who have tried,” he continued. “First and foremost, the Italians: Coppi, Moser. Then Merckx, Wiggins. To be able to say I have something in common with them.”
The event will be held on the same day as the Lombardia, Vincenzo Nibali’s last act: “It’s a pity we couldn’t avoid the simultaneity: between coming back from Australia, velodrome availability and track world championships. We will not overlap as a schedule. And I salute Vincenzo Nibali, he closes an outstanding career. I wish him the best.”
