The Atp Finals are now out of reach for Jannik Sinner, who may take a longer stop to recover

Jannik Sinner considers when to return to the court so as not to permanently jeopardize his season finale. The ankle injury suffered in Sofia in the match against Holger Rune forced the Italian to miss the tournaments in Astana and Florence, and if not managed well could also put the South Tyrolean’s presence for the Davis Cup Finals scheduled for late November in doubt.

A recovery that may take place more quietly, now that Sinner’s absence from the Atp Finals in Turin is now certain: Taylor Fritz’s victory in Tokyo has lengthened the Italian’s gap from the last available position for the Turin tournament, and by now hopes are gone.

Sinner could aim to return to Naples or Vienna at the end of October, to return to top form ahead of the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000, and especially for the Azzurri commitments that will close a season of ups and downs.
