Soccer in mourning, Sergio Brighenti died

The former Inter Milan striker has passed away at age 90; he scored the first Azzurri goal at Wembley.

Sergio Brighenti, former Modena, Inter, Triestina, Padova, Sampdoria and Torino striker, has died at the age of 90.

A nine-time national team player, Brighenti was the first Azzurri player to score a goal against England at Wembley. 138 goals scored by Brighenti in Serie A: in his palmarés two scudetti won in a Nerazzurri jersey in 1953 and 1954.

Brighenti passed away due to a sudden illness in Arluno, in the province of Milan. After his playing career, he coached Parma, Varese, Seregno and Lecco. From 1986 to 1991 he was assistant to Azeglio Vicini in the national team.
