Formula 1, Damon Hill lapidary on Ferrari
The 1996 world champion with Williams is lapidary about Ferrari
Former Formula 1 driver and 1996 world champion with Williams, Damon Hill, spoke on the ‘F1 Nation’ podcast. The Briton did not reserve honeyed words for Ferrari, according to him primarily responsible for the second consecutive title of Red Bull’s Dutchman Max Verstappen.
“I think it’s very difficult to say whether Verstappen’s title this year is more down to Red Bull and Max’s brilliance or whether it was Ferrari who shot themselves in the foot,” explained the former Williams, Arrows and Jordan among others.
“It was a regrettable performance at times on their part, because they had shown so much promise at the beginning. But between the strategy, some driver errors and basically the lack of ability to advance the car, they didn’t pose a challenge for Max,” the former British driver continued.
Indeed, the Dutchman won his second consecutive rainbow title after last season’s sprint win over Lewis Hamilton, but this year Verstappen was able to close the deal more easily, securing the mathematical victory in the fifth-to-last race.
