“I would always put Sinner and Berrettini as starters.”

Fresh off his triumph in the Naples ATP, where he beat friend-rival Matteo Berrettini, Lorenzo Musetti is ending a truly special season in the best way possible. The best ranking obtained after the victory in the Neapolitan tournament has given new awareness in his own means to the Carrara tennis player, who confessed during a long interview given to ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’.

“Now I define myself as tough, continuous and serene. Now I go on the court to win, I am more confident. With Matteo it was not easy, because at the end I saw that he was not well. I would have preferred it to be a match fought with the same intensity until the last shot. It’s already complicated to face a friend, if he suffers it’s even worse, but I was good at not letting myself be conditioned and going straight to the goal,” ‘Muso’ began.

Returning to the alleged panic attacks suffered during the Florence tournament semifinal against Auger-Aliassime, the Tuscan set the record straight for good: “But what panic attacks! I had a blockage of digestion that created problems in my stomach, so I was struggling to breathe properly. No panic, I am fine,” Musetti continued.

Finally, an important aside on the Davis Cup and the best lineup to field: “It’s a month away, and I really hope Berrettini can get better to be with the group. We really want to bring home that Salad Bowl. Volandri knows I am ready both to cheer from the bench and to take the court. If I were the captain I would always put Sinner and Berrettini as starters,” he concluded.
