Davide Rebellin, the Cyclists Association’s outburst: “Nothing has changed since Scarponi’s death.”
Cristian Salvato, ACCPI president, on the tragic death of Davide Rebellin
The Associazione Corridori Ciclisti Professionisti Italiani (Italian Professional Cyclists’ Association) has entrusted a statement with the grief of its members over the tragic death of Davide Rebellin, the victim Wednesday of a car accident in the Veneto region of Italy.
“There are no words to comment on this sad news, we cling to his family and loved ones,” said ACCPI President Cristian Salvato. “We will turn all the pain we feel into energy to make Italian roads a better place. Even if today it all seems in vain because despite our efforts and the promises of those who govern us nothing has changed since Michele Scarponi was killed. Every single day a cyclist dies in a bloody road accident. It doesn’t matter if he is good or bad at riding, how old he is, if he is a man or a woman. It is not acceptable.”
“Matteo Trentin, ACCPI vice president, had seen this with many other colleagues last weekend in Munich at the BeKing event, which aims to encourage bicycle use and promote road safety. A mission that ACCPI will not stop pursuing with the same grit that Davide showed in the saddle from the first to the last day of his life,” Salvato concluded.
