Federica Brignone reveals a backstory after the feat
Federica Brignone is the new world champion in combined: “It’s not the first time I get emotional after a success, even during the downhill in Hector, in the Olympic giant slalom, I already had tears in my eyes, but today you caught me in the act. I had said I wanted to show the slalomist in me, I succeeded even if, on that mistake in the middle of the slope, I thought I had lost it. I continued to give my best by pushing all the way: these days I was skiing well in training.”
“Did I say that a world gold would add nothing to my career? Yes, but at least I won’t have that question to deal with anymore, I can only say that I am really satisfied, beyond the title, with my performance and the ability to stay focused on such a difficult day as the combined offers, which I have always loved. It’s the top to start the World Championships like this, it had been a few editions since I showed up at 100 percent, while here I knew I was doing well mentally and on a physical and technical level. Today I’m really proud, I managed to stay focused all day, putting it all together, showing both the best supergigantist and the best slalomist in me.”
Brignone later revealed, “At the end of the race Shiffrin told me that I had put so much pressure on her because I was so far ahead.”
These are the words of Elena Curtoni: “I tried, I was hoping for a better slalom honestly, but when you don’t have it in your legs it is difficult, especially on a slope that is not easy. I still had fun and broke the ice: head now to the next days.”
