Sofia Goggia, new post on Federica Brignone
Sofia Goggia’s words
Sofia Goggia, fresh from her triumph on the snows of Crans Montana, also let loose on social media in a celebratory post with her lifelong rival, Federica Brignone, second at the finish line by just fifteen hundredths.
“Downhill with a mustache… for the Sisters of Italy,” complete with Italian flag and smiley face. The two rivals had already been talking quietly after the finish line, with Sofia putting her arm on the shoulders of the Valle d’Aosta woman, happy with the podium she had just won.
Sofia Goggia, class of 1992, was born in Bergamo and has a personal trophy case that could make anyone envious. Indeed, she was a gold medalist in the downhill in the 2018 edition of the Olympics staged in Pyeongchang, South Korea, but she can also boast three downhill World Cups and two medals won at the World Championships: a bronze in the giant slalom in Sankt Moritz in 2017 and a silver, in the super-giant, in Are, Sweden, two years later. Her best finish in the overall World Cup standings is the third place she recorded in 2017.
