Detroit has made its choice. As reported by ESPN, the Pistons have linked up with Monty Williams in an attempt to revive themselves. The franchise has not gone above 50 percent in wins since the 2015/16 season. A coach with fresh, winning ideas is needed. The choice has fallen on the former Phoenix coach.
The deal is princely. Monty Williams agreed to a six-season contract at a record $78.5 million. It is the most onerous contract, regarding a coach, in NBA history. Williams, who was named NBA Coach of the Year in May 2022, reached the NBA Finals in 2021 at the helm of the Suns.
