The words of Simone Vagnozzi

Simone Vagnozzi, coach of Jannik Sinner, gave a lengthy interview to Corriere della Sera: “Jannik is nowhere near a finished project. We work a lot, and in depth, on everything: it’s too early to allow ourselves to just take care of the details. Physically, thanks to the hours in the gym, he has improved a lot; after Roland Garros we changed the serve, and the decision paid off at Wimbledon: in London Jannik was among the tennis players with the best percentages of points made on first, aces, ball speed. The percentage of firsts needs to be raised, that yes. And then he can improve in many ways: experience, tactical vision of the match, there is no area of his tennis where Sinner is at the top. And that to me is very good news.”

“Why did we change the serve? With Darren (Cahill, the blue’s super coach, ed.) we planned to intervene at the end of the season, during winter preparation. But Jannik’s untimely exit in Paris allowed us to anticipate the move. The best, and most productive technique for Sinner is the foot up: that is, serving with the approach of the feet. At Wimbledon he was immediately more comfortable: so the movement is smoother, the other serve requires more force, and if the match got longer, or Jannik started to get a little tired, he was in danger of losing rhythm.”

Roland Garros chapter: “Sometimes with Jannik you are too hard, you look at the hair in the egg. The truth is that the season up to Rome was very good, maybe one tournament was missed but there was too much hype about a match that was not the best, where he had match points and a tape could turn everything around. I look at the long haul: the year, including that difficult passage, is very good, it’s normal that there are some small ups and downs.”
