Sinner happy to see more and more interest around tennis

Victory against Holger Rune enabled Jannik Sinner to qualify as first in the green round, also allowing Novak Djokovic to advance as second and eliminate the Dane. He triggered very positive reactions to the Italian’s entrance onto the court, alongside a smiling and overjoyed child: “For small children è it is wonderful to enter the court with stronger players in the world and also for me è it was very nice. The child told me ‘Come on Jannik, we are all cheering for you!’”.

Then came immediate confirmation about the good health of Sinner, who had touched his back toward the end of the second set. “I only had a few little problems in the second set, but physically I am fine. It was important to restart after Djokovic and I had never won against Rune, I am very happy with the success”.

In recent days, but in general already for a long time actually, Sinner has been compared to great sportsmen of the past such as Tomba or Valentino Rossi, with whom, however, according to Jannik, the comparison does not hold up. “They achieved incredible results throughout their careers, they are on another level. In my opinion comparing me to them è a bit’ too much, they have won much more; and they have had a much longer career, I on the other hand am only 22 years old”.

One thing forò è is certain, Sinner is bringing a lot of people closer to tennis. Proof of this are the great numbers of his match against Djokovic (exceeded three million viewers): “Maybe before tennis was watched less, now è a little’ different, the movement is growing. A match però can last half an hour, three or five hours in a Slam and often you don’t know when it starts. Watching long matches with 7- to 8-year-old children for families can be burdensome, but already the fact that they get informed and watch a piece of the match è very nice”, explained Jannik, who will be back on the court Saturday for the semifinals.
