Amedeo Bagnis triumphs in St.Moritz and dispels a historic tabù
Following Valentina Margaglio's second place in the women's race, Italy finally won its first World Cup skeleton victory in the men's race with Amedeo Bagnis. The 24-year-old from Vercelli, in fact, thanks to a time of 2:14.07 won the race in St.Moritz, achieving his first career success. To go back to the only other success in a world context in skeleton we have to go back to the 1948 Olympic Games (precisely in St. Moritz), when Nino Bibbia won the gold in the discipline.
Completing the podium were Germany’s Christopher Grotheer and South Korea’s Seunggi Jung, separated by 52 and 89 hundredths, respectively. Fourth place for Britain’s Matt Weston (+0.98), while Chinese Zheng Yin (+1.39) closes the top 5. In sixth place is Italy's Mattia Gaspari, 1.46 behind his compatriot. Completing the top 10: German Felix Seibel (+1.47), South Korean Jisoo Kim (+1.52) and the two Germans Axel Jungk and Felix Keisinger, both 1.54 seconds behind Amedeo Bagnis. Manuel Schwaerzer also closes in the top 20, with a gap of 2.62.
