Jannik Sinner, the Italian No. 4 seed, will have the honor of opening the 2024 edition of the Australian Open on the legendary Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. His match against Dutchman Botic Van de Zandschulp will begin at 12 noon local Australian time. Sinner appears to be in excellent physical shape and aims to have a good tournament, with a possible semifinal against Djokovic in sight.

The defending champion, Novak Djokovic himself, will instead make his debut on Rod Laver Arena at 7 p.m. local time on Sunday, Jan. 14, against young Croatian Dino Prizmic. Djokovic è the must-win favorite and will try to defend his title.

Other Italians on the court on the first day include Matteo Arnaldi, who will play in the Kia Arena against Australian wild card Walton at 1 a.m. Italian time (11 a.m. in Australia), and Lucia Bronzetti, who will face Ukraine's Tsurenko on the 1573 Arena.

Jannik Sinner comes to the Australian Open as one of the favorites for the final victory: no doubt former tennis player Mats Wilander in an interview with sporx.
