Australian Open, Daniil Medvedev joins Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner in semifinals
It's Daniil Medvedev the third semifinalist of the Australian Open 2024. The Russian tennis player, in fact, è won in five sets over Poland’s Hubert Kurkacz with a score of 7-6 2-6 6-3 5-7 6-4, after a marathon game that lasted more than four hours.
The first set opened immediately with a break in favor of the Russian. Subsequently, the world No. 3 also has a chance to go up 3-0, but Hurkacz manages to come back and grab parity, which will last until the tie-break won by Medvedev 7-4. The inertia completely changes in the second partial, as the world number nine gets off to a strong start and immediately snatches service from his rival. Accomplice to the Russian’s numerous errors, then, the Polish tennis player manages to increase the lead by easily closing the set on 6-2.
In the third set, after nullifying two break points in the opening, Medvedev managed to place the decisive break in the second game, which he then managed to maintain until the end closing on 6-4 on the fourth set point. In the fourth set, the world number three tries to up the tempo to try to close out the games, but the Pole after recovering a break manages to extend the match thanks to an excellent twelfth game a response.
In the last set, the turning point came in the seventh game, with Medvedev managing to break serve from the Pole. From that moment, the Russian reduced the errors to a minimum and conceded nothing more, closing the match on the second match point.
In the semifinals Daniil Medvedev will face the winner of the match between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev. On the other side of the scoreboard, however, there will be the match between Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner.
