The run-up to the rainbow medal in the women’s doubles for Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer stopped at the foot of the podium on the second day of the World Championships in Altenberg, Germany. On the heels of their podium finish in the sprint event, the two South Tyrolean women finished in fourth place in the race won by the Austrians Egle / Kipp with a total time of 1’24″761 and a margin of only 0″050 over the Latvians Upite / Kaluma who were in the lead at the halfway point of the race. The bronze medal thus goes to the U.S. Forgan / Kikby (+0″136), who in the second heat were able to overtake the two Italian women, fourth at 0″221.

Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer had been shining lately in the World Cup: after third places in Lake Placid and Whistler, the azzurre had given themselves a resplendent second place in the World Cup round in Winterberg, going on to undermine the hosts Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal, winners with an overall time of 1’27″131.

In the lead after the first run, the Germans had confirmed their position even at the end of the second downhill on the home gut, seeing, however, the margin over the Italian women close to the final 24 thousandths of a second. The two South Tyrolean women had been able to put in the second time in the first run and third overall in the second, with the Austrians Egle / Kipp completing the podium with an overall delay of 0″44 from the race leader.
