Giro d'Italia: Andrea Vendrame wins in Sappada, Tadej Pogacar still in pink
Andrea Vendrame (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team) won the nineteenth stage of the Giro d'Italia 107, the 157 km Mortegliano-Sappada. In second and third place were Pelayo Sanchez (Movistar Team) and Georg Steinhauser (EF Education – EasyPost), respectively. Good performance also for Simone Velasco, who finished in sixth place.
Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) remains in the overall leader’s Pink Jersey, with Colombia’s Daniel Felipe Martinez (Bora – Hansgrohe) at 7'42" and Britain’s Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) at 8'04".
"I had this stage as a goal from the beginning of the Giro. It was important to get into the breakaway of the day, from there I managed. I attacked on the descent, taking a risk, saw that I had a good lead and kept pushing. It's a special emotion becauseè I won close to home" these are the statements of Andrea Vendrame after winning the stage.
