Italbasket, Trento rally kicks off
Sunday è the gathering in Trento began, with the arrival of the Azzurri summoned by coach Gianmarco Pozzecco. L'Italbasket will remain in Trentino until Thursday June 13, when the gathering will end, leaving space from the next day to Training Camp in Folgaria (June 14/21).
Saliou Niang è been cleared to leave the national team’s gathering. There are 17 athletes available to the CT.
"We are more than happy to begin this adventure – said Pozzecco – and as always we will give everything becauseè the Olympic Games are the’highest goal that can be imagined. From today we will train with commitment and enthusiasm along the different stages of preparation involving also young and prospective boys. The support of our fans will be decisive and I hope that in Folgaria from June 14 to 21 and in Trento for the game on June 23 there will be a full house".
Enriching the Azzurro coaching staff in Trento will be, in rotation, Matteo Boniciolli, Stefano Pillastrini, Davide Bonora and Giuseppe Mangone. Davide Villa and Michele Carrea will instead be present at the Training Camp in Folgaria. Also in Folgaria, the training sessions will be refereed by Manuel Mazzoni.
While waiting for the conclusion of the Scudetto Series between Virtus Bologna and Olimpia Milano, the National Team’s technical staff will work with the available athletes to start building the team that after two friendly matches (June 23 against Georgia in Trento and June 25 against Spain in Madrid) will fly to Miami and then to Puerto Rico to play the Pre-Olympic Tournament (July 2/7). The Trento gathering will also be an opportunity to see some of the most interesting talents on the Italian basketball scene at work. The CT wanted to give continuityà to the “Green Team” project launched last year with the two friendlies against Spain in Torrejon de Ardoz.
