Euro 2024, Switzerland responds to Germany: 3-1 to Hungary
A clear victory, in response to Germany.
Switzerland victorious in its debut at Euro 2024, although the game against a generous Hungary was closed once and for all only in the second half. In fact, it ended 3-1 after a dominated first half and a second half marked by the opponent’s goal before the exclamation point at 93'. The Helvetians join Germany on 3 points in Group A.
Switzerland tries to set the challenge aggressively to avoid any possible head-scratching. Immediately Ndoye comes forward on the right and the Magyar rearguard struggles to contain him. A few minutes after Hungary's first chance (Sallai's attempt high), the lead arrives: è it's 12', and Aebischer finds Douah good at beating Gulacsi under the goal. È the Var to validate the goal, after a long check.
After Vargas’ missed double, the game then seemed to close for good at 45', when Freuler found Aebischer who scored from distance. An all-Bologna action that made Switzerland rejoice. And even at the beginning of the second half, the Swiss formation seemed to retain control of operations, while Hungary looked for solutions to reopen the match.
It succeeded in 66'with Varga, who after two wasted chances halved the gap by taking advantage of a Szoboszlai cross and framing the ball into the net. Hungary created a few more headaches for Switzerland, which, however, did not flinch. Soì came Schar’s post and especially Embolo’s trio, who in the midst of the recovery beat Gulacsi again by taking advantage of an Orban’s mistake.
