Modena awards track and field championships

Saturday and Sunday the Gold Final of the Società Absolute Championships with 12 teams for men and 12 for women. Florence and Brescia as defending champions, Olympic bronze medalist Diaz also competing. LIVE TV coverage on RaiSport

È the weekend that awards the’athletics championships. Saturday and Sunday is staged in Modena the Gold Final of the Absolute Company Championships: twelve companies in the men’s and twelve in the women’s are competing to win the tricolor title, a success that last year&negrave; went for the first time to’Atletica Firenze Marathon (men) and for the fifth consecutive time to’Atletica Brescia 1950 (women). A total of 143 teams will take to the track and platform in the same two days on Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22 at the six scheduled venues: in addition to Modena, the Silver Final in Camerino, the Bronze Final in Livorno and the B Finals in Mariano Comense, Prato and Taranto. As always, each team fields one of its own athletes in each specialty and, by rule, can benefit from military athletes returning to wear the jersey of the company’of origin, and also from any daily loans. 

Several blue stars of the season are expected in Modena, starting with Paris Olympics triple jump bronze medalist Andy Diaz (Fiamme Gialle), who for the occasion will wear the colors of Libertas Unicusano Livorno, in a race with a reduced run-up (7 supports and pre-start) to end the season. All to follow also the weight competition: world silver medalist and European champion Leonardo Fabbri ;(Atl. Firenze Marathon/Aeronautica), at the Italian record of 22.98 in Saturday night’s winning Diamond League final, è registered but will dissolve the reservation only at the weekend. Also on the platform are European indoor gold medalist Zane Weir (Enterprise Sport&Service/Fiamme Gialle), Nick Ponzio (Athletic Club 96 Alperia) and Riccardo Ferrara (Cus Palermo/Carabinieri). From the’gold medalist from the European Championships in Rome comes hammerer Sara Fantini (Cus Parma/Carabinieri), among the medalists are also marcher Francesco Fortunato (Enterprise Sport&Service/Fiamme Gialle), Italian 400 record holder Luca Sito (Cus Pro Patria Milano) and other fourcenters Riccardo Meli (Cus Palermo/Fiamme Gialle), Brayan Lopez (Athletic Club 96 Alperia/Fiamme Azzurre) and Anna Polinari (Atl. Brescia 1950/Carabinieri).

She is going through a great moment of form Italian 1500 record holder Sintayehu Vissa (Atl. Brugnera Friulintagli) who has run three times at 3:58 since Paris, with the peak in the Olympic semifinals (3:58.11): in Modena she will also do the 800 and the relay. Sixth in the Games final, Elisa Molinarolo (Atl. Riviera del Brenta/Fiamme Oro) seeks maximum points in the pole. Entered in the 400 and 400hs Ayomide Folorunso (Cus Parma/Fiamme Oro), in the 5000 Ludovica Cavalli (Bracco Atletica/Aeronautica), in the 100 hurdles Giada Carmassi (Atl. Brugnera Friulintagli/Esercito), for Cus Palermo twins Ala Zoghlami (Fiamme Oro) and Osama Zoghlami (Aeronautica) split the four middle distance races. In the jumps, two of the medalists from the U20 World Championships in Lima are present: silver medalist in the high Matteo Sioli (Studentesca Milardi Rieti, on loan from Euroatletica 2002) and bronze medalist in the triple Erika Saraceni (Bracco Athletics) respectively opposing Manuel Lando (Atl. Vicentina/Aeronautics) and Ottavia Cestonaro (Atl. Vicentina/Carabinieri). Among the foreign athletes registered for Italian companies are Olympic silver medalist sprinter with the British 4×100 team Amy Hunt, competing for Assindustria Sport, and Tunisian middle distance runner Mohamed Jhinaoui (Athletic Club 96 Alperia) fourth at the Olympics in the 3000 steeplechase. 

In the Silver Final in Camerino entered the Olympics fourth-place finisher in the high Stefano Sottile (on loan to Atletica Virtus Lucca/Fiamme Azzurre), in the triple Dariya Derkach (Acsi Italia Atletica/Aeronautica), in the 200 the promising alumni sprinter Elisa Valensin (Atl. Bergamo 1959 Oriocenter), in the 5000 the marathon record holder Sofiia Yaremchuk (Acsi Italia Atletica/Esercito). Bronze Final, Livorno: weight for Daisy Osakue (Sisport/Fiamme Gialle), discus for Alessio Mannucci (Atl. Livorno/Aeronautica), 200 and 400 for Edoardo Scotti (Cus Parma/Carabinieri), march for Riccardo Orsoni (Cus Parma/Fiamme Gialle).
