The Internazionali d’Italia began on the right foot for Lorenzo Musetti. The Carrara-based tennis player, in fact, folded Finland&#8217s Otto Virtanen in his debut with a clear 6-3 6-2. Speaking at the press conference, the Azure, in addition to analyzing his performance, spoke bluntly about the upcoming return to the court of Jannik Sinner, who will face Argentina’s Mariano Navone.

“To arrive here after such a full year of experiences and expectations and celebrate with a top 10 is priceless. I knew it wasn&#8217t going to be a good match, but it&#8217s effectiveness that counted. I didn&#8217t show the best tennis, but the important thing was to bring it home and I did. Definitely I would like to express better tennis, I am trying to prepare as best I can. I knew it was not going to be an easy challenge, however, I am already focused on the next one” began the blue tennis player.

“Personally, it doesn&#8220t change me much that Jannik is here. We have two separate lives. I feel more sensitive from an emotional and pressure side, he has always shown to be cynical and cold on the court and very good at handling emotions. He was able to deal with a very difficult situation that any other person would have struggled with. He played his best year. His return is seen as an’opportunity for everyone not to miss, but I don”t think it takes away from anything else or from the movement” continued the Carrara native.

“I have felt pressure here since I arrived, so I have not played perhaps at my best. Certainly that 2019 match in the pre-qualifying was also full of hype, which was a spectacle, very hard-fought. I remember an untapped match-point, which was worth access to the main draw. A small disappointment. Both Sinner and I have come a long way and it is nice to see photos or videos of matches played years ago. Time flies and it is great to find ourselves both in the top 10” added the world number eight.

“Definitely we have worked a lot in all aspects. Especially on clay I move very well and feel comfortable. Today I was a little bit contracted and stuck. I did not perhaps express the best Lorenzo. I improved on the forehand side, which before was a little bit’ my flaw. Now I come with more fluidity and I can hurt with that in the slide” concluded Lorenzo Musetti.
