Liverpool gives Arne Slot his gift for the newly won Premier League, Florian Wirtz. A 2003-born German trequartista from Bayer Leverkusen, he is now one step away from wearing the Reds’ jersey. The agreement between the two clubs was reached on Tuesday, June 10, with the total sum touching 150 million euros, including bonuses. It is the third most expensive transfer in soccer history, behind only the record moves of Neymar (222 million) and Kylian Mbappé (180 million) to Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool, fresh champions of the English league, burned through competition from two European giants such as Bayern Munich and Manchester City, pre-empting them all with an unwinnable offer for Leverkusen and easily convincing the player, who has long been eager to compare himself with the Premier. The final handshake came just on the closing day of the extraordinary window linked to the Club World Cup, a competition that neither the Reds nor the German club will play.

In the coming days Wirtz will undergo medical examinations and sign the contract that will bind him to the English club, ready to make him a pillar of the new technical cycle. With his superb technique, game vision and maturity well beyond his young age, the talented German represents an investment of present and future for Liverpool.

The goal is clear: after dominating the English league, the Reds want to return to excel in Europe as well, avenging the painful elimination in the round of 16 of the Champions League against Psg (winner of this year’s edition against Inter Milan). Wirtz could be the right spark to reignite the race toward the Cup with the big ears. Anfield is ready to welcome him as a new king.
