Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego go for it: the Halle tournament draw

Archived the 2025 edition of Roland Garros, it is now time for the short but intense season on grass, which will bring the best tennis players on the main professional circuit to the Wimbledon tournament. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner begins his run to the London slam from Germany, more precisely from Halle, where among other things the South Tyrolean will ‘double’play the singles and doubles tournament, along with Lorenzo Sonego.
In singles, Sinner will be one of four Italians starting: the name of his opponent, who will come out of the qualifying tournament, is not yet known; whoever advances will then find Alexandre Muller or Alexander Bublik in the second round. The other Italians are Luciano Darderi, who will face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round, Flavio Cobolli, who will face wild card Joao Fonseca, and Lorenzo Sonego, who will play against German veteran Jan-Lennard Struff.
The Sinner-Sonego doubles, on the other hand, were drawn in the first round against the pair formed by Alex Michelsen and Karen Khachanov: this is a totally unprecedented challenge at the doubles level. Also in Halle will be the well-trodden pair of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, winners in 2024, who will face Marcelo Melo and Alexander Zverev in the first round.
Included in the ATP Tour 500 since 2015 (previously a 250), the Halle Open tournament saw its inaugural edition in 1993, with Frenchman Henri Leconte winning in two sets over Ukraine’s Andrei Medvedev. Jannik Sinner is the singles tournament holder, having beaten Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(8), 7-6(2) in the 2024 final. The record holder for wins in Halle is Roger Federer, a ten-time champion between 2003 and 2019.
