Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini’s adventure in the women’s doubles at Wimbledon stopped in the second round. The Italian pair, fresh from their triumph at Roland Garros, failed to repeat on the London grass, surrendering in two straight sets to the solid pair formed by Barbora Krejcikova and Hao-Ching Chan with a score of 6-3, 6-2.

The beginning of the match had deluded. Indeed, Paolini and Errani had started well, immediately winning a break that put them ahead 2-0 in the first set. However, the reaction of their opponents was immediate and overwhelming. Chan and Krejcikova upped the tempo, responding aggressively and taking away certainties from the Italian pair, who began to suffer especially on their own serves. After recovering the break, the two opponents placed two more consecutive games in response, closing the first partial at 6-3.

In the second set, Chan and Krejcikova’s superiority appeared even more evident. The Czech-Taiwanese pair dominated in the key points, with Krejcikova flawless on serve and Chan showing great growth in response. The Italians struggled gingerly, managing to save several break points, but were never able to find continuity in their game. After suffering yet another break, Paolini and Errani found themselves down 4-1 with no chance to react. Despite a few flashes of pride, the set ended with a clear 6-2 for their opponents.

For Sara Errani now the focus will shift to the mixed doubles, where she will be engaged alongside Andrea Vavassori.
