Elia Viviani retires, the last two races before the'farewell to cycling

Elia Viviani says goodbye to the world of cycling and racing and does so with two last rides. First, on the home roads, at the Giro del Veneto on Oct. 15, to honor the places where he grew up, and then on the track, which has given him so much, at the World Championships in Santiago, Chile (Oct. 22- 26, 2025).
Bearer at the Tokyo 2020 Games, along with Jessica Rossi, he boasts three Olympic track medals in his trophy cabinet. Unforgettable is the gold won in the omnium in Rio de Janeiro 2016, the bronze, also in the omnium in Tokyo 2021 and the silver with Simone Consonni, in the American, in Paris 2024. The palmarès is then enriched by eight world podiums and more than 10 European golds. On the road, he has collected 90 successes, including five stages at the Giro d’Italia, three at the Vuelta and one at the Tour de France.
“I started this last season wanting to prove something, I wanted to decide when to call it quits, although many have asked me in recent months if I wanted to quit. The merger of my team, Team Lotto, with another one convinced me that this would be the last year. I know I’m still at a good level and that’s why I want to close at the World Championships, maybe aiming for the rainbow jersey. You know it is time to let it all go when you are not as competitive as always or to be competitive everything has to be at its best, when it used to not be that way”.
“I would do it all again 100 percent: I am so happy with what I have achieved. Cycling taught me how to live, gave me a sporting and human education. I would never have seen so many places in the world if it were not for my sport. It has given me satisfaction and has always been a part of me and my life”.
