Cameron Norrie looks forward to challenging Jannik Sinner for the first time

Cameron Norrie will be Jannik Sinner’s opponent in the round of 16 of the Madrid Masters 1000. The Briton earned a pass for tomorrow’s match by overcoming Argentina’s Thiago Tirante in two sets, with a score of 7-5 7-6(5). Sinner, on the other hand, punched his ticket to the round of 16 thanks to a clear 6-2 6-3 infliction on Denmark’s Elmer Møller.
The one scheduled on Madrid’s clay will be a first-ever confrontation on the major circuit, a first crossroads that promises reasons for interest. The two, however, have in fact already crossed paths several times in the session and, as Norrie himself admitted, the Italian number one has always proved to be an extremely tricky test.
“I’ve never faced him in a match, and it’s surprising, since we’ve been on the circuit for about five years,” Norrie told Sky Sports microphones after his success over Tirante. I’m happy to be able to challenge him, although every time we practice he always manages to put me in great difficulty. He has enormous confidence in his own means, probably at this moment he is the most confident player on the circuit. It will be interesting to see how it will go.”
The Briton then explained what his approach to the match should be: “I will try to put him under pressure, imposing my game and staying aggressive point by point. It will be a very tough challenge, but I am really curious to face him for the first time.”
