For Marc Marquez Jerez was a weekend with two faces: after the initial fall in the sprint of the Saturday, the Spanish champion managed to recover to a surprising victory in the rain. Sunday, however, came another crash and subsequent retirement in the long race of the Spanish GP. Marc Marquez, fifth in the standings with 57 points, 44 lengths behind leader Marco Bezzecchi, confided in the microphones of DAZN to comment on the difficulties of this beginning of season.

“Sometimes you fall, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and today we had to fall. The important thing is that we enjoyed the weekend in Jerez.” The rider from Cervera was clear: “Alex was out of my reach, he was unbeatable. We started out determined to fight for third or fourth place.”

The number 93 is the first reigning world champion since 2007 to go without podiums for four consecutive races. Weighing most heavily are the numerous crashes, “There are crashes for which sometimes you don’t need to look for an explanation. I simply fell. The why is not clear, but 90 percent of the crashes are the rider’s fault, so I must have done something wrong.”

compared to last year’s dominance, the situation has totally changed, and the Ducati rider: “I am the first to try to see things optimistically, but at the same time I want to be realistic. At the moment we are not riding at our best, nor do we have the speed, to fight for the world championship,” he said. “Every weekend we are losing points, we suffer every Sunday, and when this happens it means something is missing. The level we are at now is not enough to fight for a title.”
