Cagliari prepares the ground for post-Caprile: a new hypothesis is making headway

Elia Caprile’s future seems destined to consume itself far from Cagliari. Several clubs in Italy (Inter Milan and Juventus) and in Europe (Aston Villa above all) have already expressed concrete interest in the goalkeeper, and the Rossoblù management would not say no to an offer deemed congruous for the 2001-born talent. That is also why, for some time now, the club’s ownership has mandated the director of the technical-operational area Guido Angelozzi to prepare the ground for the post‑Caprile.

The name that emerges most strongly today is that of Massimo Pessina, Bologna’s revelation and a profile that Cagliari considers suitable to pick up the legacy of its current number one. According to reports from ‘Il Resto del Carlino,’ the island club has already started the first soundings, convinced that the 2007-born player represents the ideal solution for continuity, perspective and technical characteristics.

The other candidates analyzed in recent weeks remain in the background, ready to resurface should the main track become complicated. Wladimiro Falcone remains a dream, but Lecce would open to a transfer only in the event of relegation, which at the moment, given the Salentini’s four-point lead over Cremonese with three days to go in the championship, seems unlikely.

Christos Mandas, back from an unhappy experience at Bournemouth and destined to leave Lazio once again, a club that holds his tag but already has the dual Provedel-Motta option among the goalkeepers, is a monitored option. Dominik Livakovic, on his way out after a spell at Girona and a return to Dinamo Zagreb, is evaluating proposals all over Europe to relaunch himself and does not rule out a landing in Sardinia. Finally, youngster Diego Mascardi of Spezia, one of the most interesting prospects of the Serie B that is coming to an end, is also liked.
