Jannik Sinner rewrites history even without taking the field: new record coming soon

Punctual as every Monday morning, the ATP has published on its channels the weekly update of the world ranking: a significant ranking, given that the next two weeks, with the best tennis players on the circuit engaged in the main draw at Roland Garros, could change the balance. There will be no change, in fact, at the top of the ranking: with Carlos Alcaraz stationary in the pits, Jannik Sinner, who stayed put last week to prepare for the Paris Slam, will continue his unchallenged march to No. 1.

The Blue is ahead of everyone with 14,700 points, while the Murcian is at 11,960. For Sinner it is week number 73 at the top of the ranking: in the all-time ranking he thus takes the 11th position alone, detaching Stefan Edberg, but the South Tyrolean is already certain to overtake and detach by a wide margin even Lleyton Hewitt, who has been No. 1 for 80 weeks in his career. This means that Sinner is sure to break into the all-time Top 10 and will do so in mid-July, succeeding no matter what happens on the court.

The others chase at a great distance: Alexander Zverev remains third with 5,705 points, Novak Djokovic holds on in fourth at 4,710, and Felix Auger-Aliassime is fifth with 4,060 points. Rounding out the Top 10 are Ben Shelton (4,030), Daniil Medvedev (3,760, up from ninth to seventh), Taylor Fritz (3,720), Alex de Minaur (3,665) and Alexander Bublik (3,230), who snatches tenth place from Lorenzo Musetti, now 11th at a share of 3,115 ahead of Flavio Cobolli’s 2,790, who is 12th.

The other Italians in the Top 100 are Luciano Darderi (sixteenth with 2,260 points, up four places), Lorenzo Sonego (sixty-ninth with 815 points, down three boxes), Mattia Bellucci (climbed from eightieth to seventy-second place with 777 points) and Matteo Arnaldi, who climbs to position 96, gaining eight places, with 636 points to his credit. Out of the hundred is Matteo Berrettini, in box 107 with 585 points.
