Giro d'Italia: Milan takes the final stage in Rome. Vingegaard triumphs.

Finally Jonathan Milan: the Lidl-Trek rider took victory in the final stage of the Giro d’Italia, which started and finished in Rome. Milan, who was still in the hunt for his first success in this edition of the competition, edged out Giovanni Lonardi of Team Polti and Paul Penhoët of Groupama in a sprint.
Jonas Vingegaard won the pink race, becoming the first Dane to win the Giro d’Italia and the eighth rider in history to win the Triple Crown, after triumphs in the Tour de France and the Vuelta de España. On the podium with him are Felix Gall, second at more than five minutes, and Jai Hindley, third at 6’25”.
“It’s amazing to see my name engraved on the Endless Trophy. It is something I will remember for the rest of my life. Today is a very special day, with all these people along the roads cheering. It is an extraordinary honor to wear the Maglia Rosa on the streets of Rome, and sharing this moment with my wife and children moves me to tears. They have always been by my side and supported me every step of the way. To now join the small group of eight riders who have managed to win all three Grand Tours is something simply incredible,” are Vingegaard’s words.
So is stage winner Milan: “I’m really overjoyed to end this Giro this way. We always gave our best, trying every day to reach our goals. Matteo Sobrero was up front to control any breakaways and, at the moment when Filippo Ganna attacked, it was crucial to have him there. The teamwork was perfect.Winning here in Rome is something beautiful, especially after three weeks spent chasing this success.”
