Sofia Goggia in an interview with Corriere della Sera talked about her career and life, starting with what made her proudest this year, her graduation from Luiss: “It was a challenging “journey,” also because of the rules of Luiss: exams, to say, have to be taken in presence. So I happened to give one after the St. Moritz races and before the Val d’Isère races. By Monday I was in Rome, by Tuesday evening I was already in France. I explored the meaning, the dynamics, sometimes the contradictions of the Games. In the end I understood their undiminished importance as they determine decisive turning points for the host cities. Are they still a model? For me they are a perpetual model.”

Sophia was sorry not to attend the lectures: “I would have liked to experience the contamination with respect to their ideas. I missed that. But I had counted on it, and still studying at the university, even if it was complicated at the beginning because I had to catch up with a method of work, was beautiful.”

The season was positive, although below her expectations. The bronze medal and the SuperG World Cup were good results: “But I’ll cut it short and summarize: I often felt exaggerated pressure. And I wasn’t the one putting it on myself.” Now the change of staff, with Gianluca Rulfi returning as the figurehead: “He will always coordinate the pink national team, except to follow me in particular again: he transmits balance and serenity to me.”

On the future the clearest words: “On November 15 I will be 34 years old. How far will I go? I don’t know, I’m certainly no longer willing to bear the consequences of a serious accident like the one in my foot: that’s it, if I could I would cancel that day. So will I risk less? Absolutely not, but I have become more careful. The end of my career is not defined: to stay with the theme…old hen makes good stock.”
