Following the team’s failure to qualify for the Champions League and the firing of Massimiliano Allegri, the tenure at Milan of the staff who had worked alongside the Livorno-born coach has also come to an end. Among those leaving is Claudio Filippi, Allegri’s longtime goalkeeper coach, who had forged a particularly close relationship with Mike Maignan during the season.

In a message posted on his Instagram profile, Filippi bid farewell to the Rossoneri world: “After just one year, my adventure at Milan—a glorious club supported by extraordinary fans—has come to an end. Milanello is a unique, legendary place, both for its history and for the people who work there.” The coach then addressed the goalkeepers on the roster: “We had the privilege of coaching an exceptional group, not only for their technical skills but above all for their character. To Mike, Pietro, Lorenzo, and Matteo, I offer my most sincere thanks and my best wishes for a future full of success.”

Filippi’s departure inevitably fuels speculation about Maignan’s future. During last season’s contract renewal negotiations, Allegri and his staff played a key role in convincing the French goalkeeper to continue his journey with the Rossoneri. With the profound changes underway at Milanello, however, the balance of power may have shifted.

A very strong bond had formed between Filippi and Maignan, built day by day on the field. The goalkeeper coach had become one of the No. 16’s main points of reference, constantly supporting him both in training and in matches. His departure could therefore give the French goalkeeper further cause for reflection.

Maignan, for his part, has not yet made a final decision. The former Lille player continues to be courted by several top European clubs and, faced with a substantial offer, might consider leaving Milan. Following Chelsea’s strong interest in the summer of 2025, the English club could make another move. Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim, Milan’s new coach, has already begun initial talks with key players on the roster to convince them to stay. Among them is Maignan, whose future remains one of the most sensitive issues for the Rossoneri this summer.
