A surprising turn of events for Lorenzo Musetti. On Instagram, the tennis player from Carrara—who, after Roland Garros, was forced to skip Wimbledon as well—announced that he has parted ways with his coach, José Perlas.

“I want to let you know that I’ve decided to end my collaboration with my tennis coach, José Perlas. But even though our paths are parting, I want to thank him from the bottom of my heart for the work we’ve done together, for his dedication, and for the support I’ve received over these past few months. It’s been an important experience that I’ll carry with me. I wish him all the best for the future and thank him again for everything.”

Perlas joined his staff last December. “Now I’ll focus on the challenges ahead, with great motivation and confidence in the work that lies ahead.” Meanwhile, Musetti’s longtime coach, Simone Tartarini, remains on his staff. The Italian, who is dealing with a rectus femoris injury, hopes to return in time for the U.S. tour.

The former world No. 5 has been sidelined since the Italian Open. After a vacation in Puglia with his family, Musetti will resume training with one goal in mind: the 2026 U.S. Open.
