Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini will not be competing in the women’s doubles at Wimbledon, contrary to what was expected on Friday. The two Italian players were scheduled to face Maria Kozyreva and Iryna Shymanovich in the first round, but tournament organizers confirmed their withdrawal at the last minute. The match was scheduled to take place at approximately 3:40 p.m.

The reason for the withdrawal of the gold medal-winning duo from the 2024 Paris Olympics has not been officially disclosed; unlike in the previous two years, they have not achieved any particularly notable successes this season. The decision may have been influenced by Jasmine Paolini’s need to recover physically ahead of her third-round match scheduled for Saturday against Maria Sakkari.

Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini were seeded No. 6 in the women’s doubles draw; theirs is the second withdrawal following that of the pair Maja Chwalinska and Sinja Kraus, which also occurred on the eve of the first round. There are no other players representing Italy in the women’s doubles at Wimbledon 2026.
