Lazio Transfer Market: Gattuso Shows Another Player the Door

The new Lazio is beginning to take shape, with owner Claudio Lotito entrusting the team to Gennaro Gattuso. The former national team coach is ready to start anew with great determination, following the disappointment of failing to qualify for the World Cup currently being held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

In “Ringhio’s” technical plan, however, there does not appear to be a place for Luca Pellegrini. The fullback, born in 1999 and formerly of Roma and Juventus, could therefore continue his career abroad, where he has already had a stint with Eintracht Frankfurt. There is reportedly interest in the player from Spain—specifically Espanyol and Deportivo La Coruña—and from England, where Ipswich Town is keen on him.

Pellegrini’s transfer is part of a broader set of outgoing deals that Lazio must complete to finance its incoming transfers. According to rumors, Lotito has promised Gattuso the arrival of four or five new players, but to make these deals happen, the club must first generate cash through player sales.

It’s not just about the transfer market: In recent weeks, Lotito has also made headlines off the field by taking over ownership of Reggina, the historic Calabrian club. This isn’t the first time the Biancocelesti owner has embarked on such a venture: between 2011 and 2021, he had already managed Salernitana, which he sold only after the club’s promotion to Serie A. This move underscores the ambition and dynamism of a president who, at the same time, is working to build a competitive Lazio team centered around Gattuso.
