Thanks to an extraordinary display of strength, Jannik Sinner triumphed at Wimbledon, defeating a tenacious Alexander Zverev in the final. The German, who won the first set of the match, gave the South Tyrolean a run for his money, but Sinner ultimately retained his title.

By winning his second Wimbledon title, Sinner took home a check for 3.6 million pounds (about 4.2 million euros), 20% more than last year. The Italian is now very close to reaching $70 million in career earnings, counting only tournament prize money.

According to the specialized magazine Forbes, Jannik Sinner ranks fourth among tennis players who have earned the most in prize money, behind Roger Federer ($130 million), Rafa Nadal ($135 million), and Novak Djokovic, who tops the list at $193 million.

“It was a wonderful final; it takes two to play, and we gave it our all,” Sinner said after his victory over Zverev. “I’m happy with the win, but also with the level at which we played. There’s no better place to play tennis; you can feel the nerves when you wake up in the morning: it’s a special day, and you don’t know when you’ll be able to come back. You have to give it your all—it’s been two wonderful weeks. The crowd gave me the best feelings a tennis player can experience.”
