Frank Vitucci in an exclusive interview with Sportal.it: “I expect a split in the standings, but we have quality”

August 17, 2026, is a date destined to go down in the history of Pallacanestro Cantù. With the Acqua S.Bernardo team’s training camp, the Cantù Arena Pavilion—the facility dedicated to the first team’s training—was officially opened. Under the guidance of Coach Frank Vitucci, the blue-and-whites held their first preseason practice, thus kicking off the journey that will lead the club toward its 2026–27 LBA season.
The Acqua S.Bernardo training camp also marked the first event hosted within the Cantù Arena complex. It was a moment of great symbolic significance, marking a new milestone in the construction of a facility destined to become a landmark for the entire region. The event took place behind closed doors, as did all subsequent team practices, for safety reasons related to ongoing construction work in the main body of the Arena.
However, several representatives from institutions and partners involved in the project attended the inauguration, underscoring the significance of this important milestone.
Sportal.it had the opportunity to ask the Biancoblù head coach a few exclusive questions.
How proud are you to have arrived at such a prominent club?
“For me, having lived and breathed basketball my whole life, being the coach here is a great source of pride. In a coach’s career, arriving at a club like this represents a major milestone and further motivation to do my job to the best of my ability.”
How do you view this Serie A season?
“In my opinion, this year’s league will be more difficult than the previous one. The arrival of new investors and new teams has raised the level of competition and increased budgets. I believe the group of the most competitive teams has expanded, and there may be a significant split in the standings. We, however, have the tools and the confidence needed to tackle this season.”
Is the goal to stay on the left side of the standings?
“Maybe (smiles, ed.)! Let’s just say we’ll try above all not to spend too much time in the lower regions of the other side of the standings.”
