Filippo Ganna isn’t changing his mind ahead of the Vuelta

After completing both the Giro d’Italia (winning the time trial in Massa) and the 2026 Tour de France from start to finish, Filippo Ganna has decided to stick to the plan he set out in recent months: the champion from Verbania will not participate in the Vuelta a España, unlike last year when, in the third and final major stage race of the season, he also won a stage—the individual time trial in Valladolid.
The official announcement came on Thursday: Ganna’s name does not appear on the list of riders selected by Netcompany Ineos for the Vuelta, which instead includes Australians Jack Haig and Lucas Hamilton, Frenchman Axel Laurance, Britons Oscar Onley, Ben Turner and Joshua Tarling, the Spaniard Carlos Rodriguez, and the Norwegian Embret Svestag-Baardseng.
Filippo Ganna’s only two appearances in the Vuelta remain those of 2025, when he finished 131st, and the one two years earlier, in 2023, when he finished in 104th place, winning (as he did two years later) an individual time trial starting and finishing in Valladolid.
This year, however, the Italian champion was a standout at the Giro d’Italia, finishing 99th overall and winning the time trial starting in Viareggio and finishing in Massa, while he was somewhat less prominent at the Tour, where he failed to win a stage and finished 123rd in the general classification.
