Milan Transfer Market: A Sudden Setback for a Major Transfer

Porto has put negotiations for the acquisition of Santiago Gimenez from Milan on hold. The Mexican forward is not part of Ruben Amorim’s plans and is training separately while he awaits a decision on his future. Negotiations between the Rossoneri and the Dragons regarding the player had been underway for weeks, but differences in opinion between the two clubs have led to a suspension of talks.
Specifically, Milan rejected an initial offer from Porto for a free loan with an option to buy set at 15 million euros, which would become mandatory upon the achievement of certain individual and team objectives.
This was too little for the Rossoneri, who paid over 30 million euros for the player from Feyenoord a year and a half ago. The club has requested a loan with a fee and a buyout option set above 20 million euros. That’s too much for Porto, which has currently put the negotiations on hold to assess whether it can pursue possible alternatives.
Giménez had given the green light to the move to Portugal and had already agreed to the contract, but now the talks have stalled. Porto is considering alternatives and may regard the matter as closed. “We’re in negotiations; Porto made an initial offer, which Milan didn’t accept,” his father, Christian, explained to FOX Mexico. “As the negotiations proceed… It’s a great opportunity… It’s a great opportunity that’s coming at a time that isn’t exactly positive, after the year he’s had, with the injuries.” Many people talk about Santi’s stats, but they don’t mention that he’s been injured for the past seven months… This is another aspect that can’t be ignored. But the reality is that a team like Porto wanting to sign him at such a difficult time is a very positive thing.”
