Nadia Battocletti is becoming an increasingly prominent figure in international track and field. The star athlete from Trentino won her first-ever Diamond League race, taking the 5,000 meters in Chorzow, Poland, with an extraordinary final sprint. Her time of 14:54.09 secured her the victory ahead of Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu, who finished second in 14:54.62, while third place went to Australia’s Rose Davies in 14:55.39.

This marks yet another prestigious achievement for Battocletti following her second consecutive double at the European Championships, where she won gold in both the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter races in Birmingham. The Fiamme Azzurre athlete has once again confirmed that she is in exceptional form, managing to prevail even in a top-tier international competition just a few days after the grueling continental championships.

In Chorzów, the race took a different turn than anticipated on the eve of the event. The pace was, in fact, slower than expected, with the 3,000-meter mark reached in 9:08.91 and the pack still tightly bunched with one kilometer to go, covered in 12:11.36. It is precisely in such a situation that the Italian’s tactical skill comes to the fore.

With two laps to go, the athlete from Trentino gradually moves up toward the front of the pack and positions herself behind the Ethiopian Marta Alemayo, who would finish fourth in 14:55.46. Then, on the final lap, Nadia’s moment arrives. About 150 meters from the finish line, at the last curve, Battocletti suddenly changes pace with one of her now-famous surges. Just a few strides were enough to create a lead her opponents could no longer close. The final lap, clocked at 58.7, perfectly captures her finishing sprint. Behind her, Hailu and Davies finished, while five other Ethiopians rounded out the top positions. Among them was Likina Amebaw, the leader of the rankings, who finished eighth in 14:56.42.
