Jiri Lehecka goes against the grain after the knockout with Jannik Sinner

Jiri Lehecka analyzed his loss to Jannik Sinner in the final of the Miami Masters 1000: “Experience and confidence are key, I think these two factors played a significant role in the final. Sinner showed that at every crucial moment in the first set, especially in that game on 0-40 where I had an opportunity to get back into the match. He served incredibly well at that moment, putting up five first serves.”

The Czech tennis player believes he has grown from his previous confrontation with Sinner, at Roland Garros in 2025: “It was a slightly different story here, although the conditions were difficult because of the rain, which didn’t help me much, but so what. I played a better match, and I had a much better performance than in Paris.”

Lehecka then made a countercultural statement about the Alcaraz-Sinner duopoly, which is dominating tennis at the moment (the two have shared the last 19 tournaments in which they have both appeared): “It’s not the first time something like this has happened in the tennis world… We’ve seen it before under different names, but I think it’s great, really. It’s very good for the sport and also for us. Ultimately, they show us our limitations, teach us what we need to improve in our game, and basically what we need to strengthen around us to be able to beat them.”

“Matches like today’s against these guys help me realize that I still have a lot of room for improvement. I had a good tournament here in Miami; I’m happy with my game, but once again it showed me where I need to go, I need to keep improving every day if I want to beat these guys in the final rounds of tournaments like Masters 1000 or even Grand Slams,” are Lehecka’s clear words.
