Collovati: "Bastoni naive but not just his fault"

Fulvio Collovati, 1982 world champion and now a highly regarded RAI commentator, spoke to Sportal.it about yet another dreadful night in Italian soccer: for the third time in a row the Azzurri will not take part in the final phase of the world championships, a real sports drama that is also, as obvious, triggering a series of controversies. “What happened in Zenica is a bit of a summary of what Italian soccer is at the moment. We have good players but no star players,” he stressed.
“We play slow soccer compared to the intensity that there is in England, even Fabio Capello, a man who knows about it, said so,” he added. “We should not be surprised if we went out with number 55 in the ranking. This is what Italy is. Sad to say it but sticking to episodes certainly doesn’t help…”.
“I’ve been hearing for 10 years that we need to revolutionize soccer but nothing has changed – the Friulian then pointed out -. We continue to bet little on Italians, despite the fact that U17 and U19 continue to give very good signs”.
“Bosnia didn’t steal anything. We cannot have alibis. One has to wonder why a defender like Alessandro Bastoni makes such a naive foul at the edge of the area but the blame for this defeat is not only his, let’s be clear,” Collovati concluded.
